The main function of the pressure valve is to control and maintain the pressure inside the coffee machine during the brewing process. It helps prevent over-pressurisation which can damage the coffee machine.

The valve operates on the basis of a spring-loaded mechanism. In the normal state (closed position), the pressure in the system is balanced by the force of the spring, which presses on the stem and spool, keeping the valve in the closed position.    
When the pressure relief valve exceeds the allowable level, the spring compresses, forcing the spool to rise. This action allows excess vapour to be discharged into the manifold or exhaust pipe, reducing the pressure in the system.
